Social imprints’ Solutions
for wikipedia

Wikipedia is the Internet’s well-known free encyclopedia. Volunteers around the globe have written 30 million Wikipedia articles in 287 languages (over 4.4 million articles in English). Wikipedia’s traffic is sixth among all Internet sites, with an estimated 365 million annual readers.

Wikipedia’s parent organization, Wikimedia, is a longtime Social Imprints customer. The folks at Wikimedia approached us with the following challenges:

Challenge 1:

“Create a line of moderately priced, ethically sourced, sweat-shop-free Wikipedia-branded products.”

Social Imprints’ solution 1:

Social Imprints created custom labels imprinted with the Wikipedia logo.
We created t-shirts using uniquely styled Tultex blanks, an alternative to American Apparel at 40% of the cost of American Apparel.

Challenge 2: “Create an internal web store where Wikimedia employees can have Social Imprints send products to internal and external event organizers, and to its worldwide network of volunteers.” Social Imprints’ solution 2:

Social Imprints created a password-protected website to ensure that only Wikipedia employees can purchase from the internal web store.

Challenge 3: “Create a separate web store where the general public can purchase many of the same products.” Social Imprints’ solution 3:

To leverage Wikipedia’s strong brand equity, we built the web store to resemble a page on the Wikipedia site.

Challenge 4: “Maintain a single inventory database for both web stores.” Social Imprints’ solution 4:

Our inventory management system properly accounts for a single set of inventory for both stores.

Social Imprints staff fulfills orders daily, shipping to 13-plus countries in the developing world.
